Searchers find missing Alzheimer’s patient

April 12, 2013

After leaving her home three hours earlier, an Oconee County Alzheimer’s patient was found cold and wet, but uninjured. Deputy Director Adam Williams of Oconee Emergency Management said the 69-year old woman received an escort through the woods to meet an ambulance crew. She was then sent home and released to her family. Last night’s ordeal began around 7 o’clock when the woman left her home and became disoriented. Rescuers gathered at a rural location near Westminster, on Delta Drive. According to Williams, the missing woman carried a cell phone that enabled searchers to make and keep contact during the search. The missing woman was able to tell searchers that she had been walking through the woods, crossed multiple creeks, and was near a field. They found her about one-half mile from her home.
