Second polling spot urged for Seneca

Mayor Pro-tem Ronnie O’Kelley says he wants to think further about an idea to establish a second voting location in his city. A recommendation to consider Gignilliat Community Center as the new place to vote for about one-half of the city’s voters will go on the agenda for this month’s work session of the city council. Tuesday night Joy Scharich, county elections director, urged Seneca leaders to consider making Gignilliat the new location for voters in city precincts 1 and 2, while maintaining the Shaver Recreation Complex for precincts 3 and 4. Scharich would like the city to consider the change in advance of next year’s elections that will include Presidential preference primaries and the other elections that will have voters cast ballots for Sheriff and President, among other offices. To make the change, Scharich said, a media effort will be requested to inform and explain the change to all voters affected.
