Seneca kills downtown parking plan

The idea of Duke Energy workers parking in Seneca’s downtown and then shuttled by bus to the nuclear plant rubbed some merchants the wrong way.  And now the idea of Seneca making parking at the Norton-ThompsonPark available has been scrapped.  Merchants, such as SteveSprings and Bob Becker, made their concerns known during last night’s city council meeting.  They worry about adequate parking for their customers, especially at holiday giftbuying time.  Mayor Dan Alexander says the plan now is for Duke to use property closer to the nuclear plant as a park-and-ride lot, with CAT buses will providing transport.  Training sessions this month and next are bringing in a swarm of Duke workers to its Oconee complex—an estimated 4,500 workers.
