Seneca leaders hold private meeting

Seneca Police Chief John Covington went behind closed doors last night with the mayor and city council.  Also, taking part in that private meeting for the purpose of “active legal cases” were the city administrator and the city attorney.  Michael Smith, city attorney, said no action from last night’s executive session was expected.  In an interview with 101.7/WGOG NEWS, Smith described the reason for the private meeting to explain to members of the council the latest developments in the investigation of the shooting death last summer of Zachary Hammond, including Tuesday’s announcement by the circuit solicitor that she will pursue no criminal charges against police officer Mark Tiller.  An investigation remains in progress on the federal level.  And the Hammond family, according to its lawyer, remains committed to pursuing civil claims in the case.
