Seneca leaders mull a New Year’s Eve bash

Members of Seneca City Council hesitated last night to authorize a celebration on Ramcat Alley on New Year’s Eve in which the one block street would be shut down to vehicular traffic.  The idea, according to City Administrator Greg Dietterick, would be to allow for a large screen TV on which revelers could watch the Clemson-Ohio State national playoff game and then follow the ball drop for the year 2017.  Their discussion ended, however, when Mayor Dan Alexander instructed Dietterick to gauge whether the city would have the necessary resources available to arrange and supervise an event two and a half weeks away.  Councilwoman Denise Rozman reacted with surprise, saying last night was the first time she had heard of the request.  Rozman’s colleague, Dana Moore, spoke in favor of a New Year’s Eve party.  Moore conceded that while some people will be out of town for the holiday, others will be here and likely would enjoy such an event.  There was discussion of how much the party would cost and whether the event could be paid for by the city’s hospitality and accommodation tax funds.
