Seneca leaders reject pay raise

The majority of Seneca’s elected leaders want nothing to do with the idea of a pay raise in exchange for their part-time duties in setting city policy.  Only Councilman Al Gaines cast a vote in favor of raising council members’ salary from $600 to $900 dollars a month effective in 2018.  The pay raise failed 8 to 1.  Councilman Anthony Herman Smith said he believes that those elected to office in Seneca should not be in it for personal reward, and Councilman Dana Moore endorsed Smith’s remarks.  Gaines’s motion received a second from Councilman Ronnie O’Kelley for the purpose of discussion.  But when it came to a vote, Gaines attracted no support.
