Seneca man charged with breach of trust

An arrest warrant served by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office charges a Seneca man with breach of trust. Richard Barrett Thompson, 41 years old, was booked into the Oconee Detention Center Tuesday after a highway patrol traffic stop on highway 24 at Shady Lane. State troopers learned through the National Crime Information Center that an outstanding warrant existed for Thompson’s arrest. According to Jimmy Watt, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, the victim paid $2,100 in cash to a man named “Barry Thompson” and made arrangements to pick up a camper and its title. But, as the investigation continued, the camper was located near West Union. Watt said the camper did not have a vehicle identification number, nor did the suspect in the case have a title. A deputy later learned the suspect’s name was Richard Barrett Thompson. Thompson has been released from the Detention Center on a $5 thousand personal recognizance bond.
