Seneca Man Faces Multiple Charges

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Seneca man yesterday evening on multiple charges with drug and weapons warrants among them.  Casmiro Diaz, 42,  of Hidden Drive, Seneca was booked into the OconeeCountyDetentionCenter around 9:05pm Tuesday.  A deputy with Uniform Patrol Division responded to the Hidden Hill Drive address of Diaz around 7:40pm Tuesday in regards to reports of a man waving a firearm at his neighbors.  Dispatch informed the officer that subject was in a green Ford SUV and was attempting to leave the area.  The deputy made contact with the Diaz in the SUV.  Diaz then put the vehicle in reverse and sped down the gravel road at the incident location, striking a tree while still in reverse.  The deputy pursued Diaz for about 200 yards.  After making contact with the suspect, Diaz told the deputy that he had thrown the gun a short distance.  The deputy patted down Diaz to make sure that the weapon was still not on his person. The weapon, a handgun, and one round of ammunition were located.  The deputy was informed that there was a verbal altercation which led Diaz waving the gun around.

Diaz was placed under arrest and a search incident to arrest on Diaz produced a silver canister on his person that had multiple prescription pills.  Information also came to light that Diaz had several aliases and that PickensCounty had outstanding warrants on Diaz but under a different name. Diaz was charged in Uniform Traffic Tickets with having no South Carolina Driver’s License, Reckless Driving, Possession of Stolen Goods, Improper Tag Displayed, Failure to Register Vehicle and Operating Uninsured Vehicle. Deputies also booked Diaz on Temporary Custody Orders on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Lorazepam) and Unlawful Carry of a Firearm until warrants on those charges were obtained Wednesday.
