Seneca OKs funding plan for new museum

In a unanimous vote, the Seneca City Council approved a funding plan to build the city’s second museum. This one is to be called the Bertha Strickland Museum and will serve as Seneca’s museum for African-American history. Approved by the mayor and council last night was a plan to borrow up to $600 thousand from the Light and Water Plant’s peak shaving account and repay the account with monies generated by the city’s Hospitality and Accommodations Tax fund. Joel Seavey, city financial director, projects the $600 thousand can be repaid over five years, along with an interest rate of 1.69%.
