Seneca approves for tourism initiative

Seneca leaders last night showed enthusiasm for an initiative designed to make South Carolina a friendlier place for tourists. The mayor and council approved spending $15 thousand for the city’s part in “South Carolina Great Outdoors” as explained by Phil Shirley, director of Oconee Parks, Recreation and Tourism. Mayor Dan Alexander told Shirley tourism is something his city wants to further embrace. Seneca draws numbers of people for its concerts, baseball tournaments, Jazz on the Alley, among other events, and Alexander says Seneca recognizes the benefits whether they are ringing cash registers or visitors who enjoy the experience so much they want to move to the area. The city council also received a presentation last night from Oconee County Councilman Paul Corbeil, representing the upstate organization of organizations, government, and private companies that work to foster regional collaboration. Corbeil invited Seneca leaders to take part in a regional Ten at the Top summit September 16 in Greenville.
