Seneca on the cusp of a first

Seneca is just days away from setting in motion the first fleet of electric-powered buses to serve a municipal transit authority. And this week Mayor Dan Alexander gave credit to a number of individuals who proved to be the impetus for considering any kind of bus passenger service at all. At this week’s council meeting, Alexander thanked Marie Dunnam of Oconee First Steps for her organization’s role in 2000 study that showed a sizeable number of residents needed transportation. That finding eventually led to Seneca’s contract with Clemson Area Transit to begin diesel gasoline buses on October 16, 2006. January 6, 2014 is to be the date the fleet switches to all-electric.
