Seneca organizes its first ATAX committee

Seneca’s first ATAX (Accommodations Tax) advisory committee organized during its first meeting, with five of its seven members in attendance. At the start, city financial director Joel Seavey announced the city council-appointed committee became necessary once the city’s ATAX receipts exceeded $50 thousand a year. It will be the committee’s duty to consider grants to organizations that use the money to attract tourists to the city. The committee will act in an advisory role to the city council, which will decide which grant applications are approved. The committee yesterday set a meeting schedule and elected Sanjay Desai, developer of the Hampton Inn and Suites, chairman and Bobby Elliott, representing Copper River Restaurant, vice chairman.
