Seneca primed to throw the switch July 1

Without discussion, Seneca City Council adopted on second and final reading last night an ordinance to change electric power suppliers beginning this summer. At the expiration July 1 of its current contract with the Southern Company, Seneca will start to draw its wholesale supply of electricity from an arm of state government, the South Carolina Public Service Authority, commonly known as Santee Cooper, headquartered in the Berkeley County town of Moncks Corner. Bob Faires, Seneca utilities director, said after last night’s called, special meeting the Santee Cooper deal gives the mayor and the city administrator the authority to sign the contract. The contract is to run 10 years.
