Seneca pursues annexation east of the city limit

Seneca leaders want to grow their city boundaries by 34 acres—by annexing a city owned building and related properties. In a noon hour City Hall meeting today, the city’s Facilities Corporation voted 5-0 to pursue the annexation of its Seneca Rail Site industrial building and connected property. The building and grounds there are a joint project by the city and Oconee County to create a new industrial park. The address is 320 Shiloh Road at the edge of Utica community. Some use is already being made there of the former Pro Pex manufacturing building. Ed Halbig, member of the board of the Facilities Corporation, said the annexation application covers only Seneca owned property, although it’s understood that the county eventually will ask the city to annex its part. The annexation application must first be considered by the Seneca Planning Commission and then by the city council.
