Seneca to “release” diesel buses

Ed Halbig says Seneca’s switch to all electric buses is working so well that the city no longer needs its fleet of diesel-powered buses. On the recommendation of the city’s planning and community development director, city council last night voted “to release” the buses to the South Carolina Department of Transportation. The DOT holds title to the buses. When purchased with federal money, the three buses cost $700 thousand. Seneca’s venture as an electric bus system began six months ago. To date, the city runs five buses on three routes with plans to negotiate the purchase of a sixth bus.
