Senecan questions the dump behind Gignilliat

A Seneca man brought his concern about storm water mitigation to last night’s city council meeting.  What bothers Ron Knoerr is the cost Seneca will pay to restore property behind the Gignilliat Community Center to the satisfaction of the state Department of Health and Environmental Control.  Mayor Dan Alexander told Knoerr that the city is complying with DHEC about the removal of concrete debris from the top of a fill area.  And Greg Dietterick, city administrator, explained that the city made a deal with a contractor to allow him at no charge to dump debris to fill and level ground on which Seneca wants to build soccer fields for its recreation program.  Knoerr said if the contractor were forced to dispose of the debris elsewhere, he would have been charged.  But Dietterick says Seneca benefited because the fill alternative would have cost Seneca “hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
