Senior citizen center coming to Walhalla

Three rooms inside the former Walhalla Middle School are to be converted for a senior center, to be operated by Senior Solutions of Oconee and Anderson counties.  To make this project official, according to school district administrator Steve Hanvey, a vote will be required of the county trustees.  Part of the former middle school building will continue to be used for the school district’s alternative student classes.  At a City Hall meeting last night, Walhalla Councilman Lamar Bailes stressed the importance of the project, saying it means that Walhalla and area senior citizens will no longer be required to drive to Seneca for in-house dinner meals and other services offered by Senior Solutions.  According to Bailes, Senior Solution offers insurance assistance to seniors.  And Hanvey says the idea in the Walhalla center is to create a physical fitness workout area such as that which Senior Solutions offers in the former East End Elementary School in Seneca.
