National Weather service has issued a flash flood watch in effect from 10 am this morning through late tonight. A cold front will approach from the Tennessee Valley today, and that will increase the coverage and intensity of showers and thunderstorms across the Western Carolinas and Northeast Georgia. The national weather service says storms may be particularly severe this afternoon and this evening with damaging winds and frequent cloud to ground lightning. These showers may also produce heavy rain with the potential of up to 2 inches per hour. This rain will fall on already saturated ground and swollen rivers and lakes. This will increase the potential for flash flooding and fallen trees. Motorists are urged to be very cautious and observant. Officials advise the public, if you encounter a flooded roadway, NEVER attempt to cross it by vehicle or on foot, even if it appears to be shallow.
