Sheriff enlists help to fight litter

Sheriff Mike Crenshaw has enlisted the help of Keep Oconee Beautiful’s “Kobie the Bear” mascot in the fight against the crime of litter.  And this afternoon Crenshaw announced a social App, through which members of the public can anonymously report litter with the expectation that his office’s environmental services deputy will see to it that the litter is removed within a week’s time.  You can also report litter to www.oconeelaw.com/litter.  The first-term sheriff conceded other ideas are going to be required before the county can get a handle on a problem that seems to worsen every year.  It was nearly 50 years ago that a group of Oconee ministers tried to implore Oconeeans not to litter and deface their county.  Crenshaw said he thinks education will be key and said it’s his hope that thru Kobie the Bear the county’s public school population will learn that littering is not going to be their habit.
