Sheriff’s Office can do more on the litter front, Crenshaw says

Oconee Sheriff’s Office has made strides to lessen the county’s un-ending environmental crime of common littering, but the man in charge says his office and others can do more.  Sheriff Mike Crenshaw commented to 101.7/WGOG NEWS about the center stage that littering took last week when a Seneca area woman spoke to county leaders and presented pictures aimed for a shocking effect of just how bad the problem is becoming.  Crenshaw said road litter pickup by supervised inmates and the Sheriff’s Office website which enables members of the public to report problem spots are helping, but he’s willing to do more.  But Crenshaw said it’s going to take others pitching in, such as judges which he would like to see mete out stiffer penalties to those convicted of the crime.  Another solution, Crenshaw believes, is a countywide litter cleanup day.
