Sheriff’s Office issues scam alert

Oconee Sheriff’s Office reports a scam that involved the IRS…and later Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. The Sheriff’s Office quotes a West Union woman as saying she received a call from someone with a foreign accent claiming to be from the IRS and telling the woman that she owed $4,500. The woman later received a second call—this one from someone claiming to be Sheriff Mike Crenshaw and telling the woman that an arrest warrant would be issued. The Sheriff’s Office advises anyone who receives calls of this nature not to give out personal information or buy any items such as a green dot card. Hang up and call the Sheriff’s Office.
