“Significant fire in the building”

An explosive fire at Fair Play today damaged a restaurant and left one employee with apparent serious burns. Charlie King, the Oconee fire chief, says the first set of Fair Play fire fighters to arrive at I-85, Exit 4 found significant fire inside the Bootland Restaurant and an injured female employee in the parking lot. The worker, who was not identified by name, was treated at the Anderson hospital and then flown to the burn center near Augusta, Georgia. It took about 25 minutes to douse the fire. A search of the building was conducted to assure that no one else was left inside the building. The fire damage was confined to the kitchen and dining room. “The cause of the fire is being investigated at this time, but it appears to have started in the kitchen area…,” King said.
