Pickens County is known as a place with more Medal of Honor recipients per capita than any other county in the country. The Town of Six Mile is making plans to honor its county’s four recipients during this year’s Memorial Day celebration. The event will take place 10 o’clock Monday morning, May 27 at Six Mile Town Hall, where there will be recognition for relatives of the late Charles Barker, William McWhorter, Furman Smith, and Donnie Howe. The medal is the highest awarded by the military. The event will be free and open to the public. Guest speaker will be Major Robert Livingston, South Carolina Adjutant General and a veteran of Afghanistan.
