“SLED” investigation requested

After seeing the video, the Oconee Sheriff wants another set of eyes to review what happened Sunday evening in the county jail.  Sheriff Mike Crenshaw issued this statement:  “I have requested SLED to conduct an independent investigation.  I am making this request simply to prevent any potential conflict of interest since correctional officers are employees of the Sheriff’s Office.  I believe our correctional officers acted appropriately which has been documented through the detention system video.”  As the result of the disturbance that originated when an inmate complained about the lack of ice for the dinner time refreshment, food trays were thrown and four people required medical treatment—two guards and two prisoners.  One prisoner was sent to a Greenville hospital.  Crenshaw said there’s further reason for an outside agency to investigate because he anticipates criminal charges will be filed against those who injured the jail guards.
