“Smart Driver” course offers safe practices and strategies

If you have been driving for years, you may think you know all you need to know about safe practices on the roads. But Oconee County resident Harry Wertheimer says you should think again. Wertheimer is a certified instructor for an AARP “Smart Driver” course who is getting ready to offer a new class in nearby Pickens County. Wertheimer’s five previous classes were popular. All were filled to the 25-participant capacity. The next class takes Friday, August 1 at the Osher Lifelong Learning Cheezum Education Center at 100 Thomas Green Boulevard, Clemson. It’s a six-hour classroom program that starts at 9:15 in the morning and runs until 4 o’clock in the afternoon. There’ll be a 45-minute lunch break and it is suggested that you bring a lunch. The cost is $15 for AARP members or $20 for others. According to Wertheimer, South Carolina auto insurers will give a discount to drivers who complete the program.
