Something tangible to show for it all

Seneca’s mayor pro-tem says he appreciates his city’s need to pay now to invest for the future, but he issued a warning last night to his colleagues. Ronnie O’Kelley said, in considering Seneca’s intent to float bonds to help pay for the improvement, it ought to add a project for which Senecans can easily see the benefit. And that’s the replacement of the dangerous gymnasium floor at the Shaver Recreation Complex. According to O’Kelley, Seneca leaders in building the recreation complex in the 1990s should have opted for a hard-wood gym floor in place of a kind of rubberized waffle surface that causes problems today. At O’Kelley’s urging, City Administrator Greg Dietterick offered to gather figures for replacing the floor. Recreation Director Rick Lacey quoted an estimate of a Greenville company of $68 to $69 thousand.
