South Carolina Business Court convenes in Oconee

Oconee’s 4th floor courtroom at the county courthouse was used Friday for a session of the one-year old South Carolina Business Court. Several out of county attorneys made the trip to Walhalla to argue a case assigned to 10th Circuit Judge Lawton McIntosh. Motions were heard in a lawsuit, which originated in Beaufort County and challenges the use by banks of an electronic system to register deeds that avoids paying deed recording fees to counties. Westminster businessman John Dalen last year told Oconee County Council that if the plaintiffs succeed in this case it could mean money for county governments, such as Oconee.
