South Carolina’s main port takes no backseat

The main South Carolina port at Charleston is a busy place, but an official says you can expect the harbor port to become an even busier place in the future as the port improves, expands and adds customers. Jack Ellenburg of the South Carolina State Ports Authority elicited  wows from the crowd hearing him at today’s business forum of the Oconee Economic Alliance. Ellenburg, who played a role in bringing a large Boeing plant to the Charleston area, told of how the state’s new in-land port at Greer, which can be reached from a rail line in Oconee, can move imports from Charleston by rail and relay exports the same way. In an interview with 96.3/WGOG NEWS, Ellenburg explained why the Charleston port is one of the busiest in the country and why it’s a myth to think that it takes a backseat to nearby rival Savannah, Georgia.
