Spec building recommended for Golden Corner park

An Oconee County Council committee will recommend the construction of a spec building at the Golden Corner Commerce Park at Fair Play.  Council members Cain, Dexter and Thrift, meeting last night as the council’s Planning and Economic Development Committee, voted to apply for a $3 million loan through the state’s Public Service Authority, Santee Cooper. The recommendation is subject to approval by a vote of the full council. The committee acted on a recommendation from Richard Blackwell, the economic development recruiter.  A similar building in the Oconee Industry and Technology Park would cost about $2.3 million but the committee wants to jumpstart the development of the GCCP and Blackwell believes it’s ideally situated for a distribution center. He wants to preserve the largest possible sites in the park for distribution centers.
