Special exhibit opens Friday

How South Carolina got its shape is a story of adventure, politics and boundary making. And you can learn all about it through an exhibit that opens Friday evening at the Oconee Heritage Center in Walhalla. The exhibit features original maps from the collection of the South Carolina Historical Society and quotations concerning the science of surveying from noted surveyor and General William Moultrie, Revolutionary hero. The exhibit grand opening and reception will be 6 o’clock Friday evening. And the public also has an invitation at 6:30 Friday night to hear guest speaker Alan-Jon Zupan of the South Carolina Geodetic Survey Commission. Leslie White, director/curator of the Heritage Center, says Zupan will address the borders of South Carolina and the political issues involved in accurately maintaining the boundaries.
