HS: Daniel Outlasts West-Oak

In high school basketball on Friday night, the Daniel Lions win a fifth straight Western AAA title with a 66-55 win over West-Oak in boys action.  Elsewhere, Seneca defeated Belton-Honea Path 66-61.  Thomas Brown led the Bobcats with 18 points.  Seneca wraps up the regular season at West-Oak on Tuesday.  Walhalla's boys downed Pickens 75-61 with 31 points from Dillon Bender.  Walhalla will host Belton-Honea Path on Tuesday for a chance at the playoffs.  On the girls side, Daniel defeats West-Oak 61-38.  Seneca's Lady Cats defeat BHP 55-43.   Ciara Boggs had 15 points.  Walhalla's girls were winners over Pickens 48-29 behind 14 points from Molly Saxon. 

BASKETBALL: Men's Hoops Set To Host No. 1/1 Kentucky Saturday

The South Carolina men's basketball team (9-12, 1-6 SEC) returns to Colonial Life Arena on Saturday to host No. 1/1 Kentucky (22-1, 8-0) in a Southeastern Conference matchup set to begin at 6 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ESPN.

FOOTBALL: Jimmy Lindsey Named Defensive Line Coach At Furman

Furman head football coach Bruce Fowler announced today the hiring of Jimmy Lindsey as the Paladins' new defensive line coach, replacing Ricky Logo, who accepted a similar position at the University of Houston last month.

BASKETBALL: Clemson Men's Basketball Team to Face Virginia Tech in Blacksburg Saturday Afternoon

The Clemson men's basketball team will hit the road on Saturday for a match-up against Virginia Tech Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Virginia.  Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM.  The Hokies hold a slim 12-11 lead in the series against the Tigers.  

FOOTBALL: Grady Brown Hired as Secondary Coach

South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier has added former Southern Miss assistant Grady Brown to his coaching staff, it was announced today. Brown will serve as the Gamecocks' secondary coach and assistant special teams coordinator in 2012.

BASKETBALL: Paladins Host UNC Greensboro In Saturday SoCon Showdown

The Furman men's basketball team returns to YP.com Court at Timmons Arena on Saturday when it hosts Southern Conference North Division leading UNC Greensboro in a game that will be heard on 96.3 WGOG. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.  Furman enters the contest at 11-11 overall and 5-6 in SoCon play after a 71-53 loss at home against Davidson on Wednesday night.

BASKETBALL: Lady Gamecocks Rally Past #8/8 Tennessee 64-60

South Carolina fought back from seven points down in the final 3:37 to earn its first win over #8/8 Tennessee in 32 seasons, topping the Lady Vols 64-60. Senior Markeshia Grant had the hot hand, hitting seven 3-pointers en route to a career-high 24 points, while senior La'Keisha Sutton added 12, including the sealing free throws on a 1-and-1 opportunity in the final 12 seconds.

BASKETBALL: No. 12/11 Gators Survive Upset Bid, 74-66

The Gamecocks pulled within six points, but solid free throw shooting down the stretch saw No. 12/11 Florida escape with a 74-66 win in SEC action at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville on Thursday night. The Gamecocks fall to 9-12, 1-6 SEC with the loss, while Florida improves to 18-4, 6-1 in league play.  Sophomore forward Damontre Harris had an impressive night for the Gamecocks with a near double-double, scoring 12 points, collecting nine rebounds and matching a career high with six blocks. 

BASEBALL: Brady, Gossett, Shaffer Listed Among Top 50 in Their Respective Classes By Baseball Americ

Three Tigers were listed among the top-50 players in their respective classes by Baseball America on Thursday. Infielder Richie Shaffer was listed as the #13 junior, righthander Kevin Brady was listed as the #39 junior, and righthander Daniel Gossett was listed as the #47 freshman in the country.

FOOTBALL: Furman's Steed Invited To NFL Combine

Furman All-America cornerback Ryan Steed will participate in the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, scheduled for Feb. 22-28 in Indianapolis, Ind., it has been confirmed.  Top executives, coaching staffs, player personnel departments, and medical personnel from all 32 NFL teams will be on hand at Lucas Oil Stadium to evaluate the nation's top college football players for the upcoming NFL Draft, slated for April 26-28 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

FOOTBALL: Furman Announces 2012 Football Schedule

A clash against Clemson and regular season finale at home against arch-rival The Citadel highlight Furman's 2012 football schedule, which was released today by director of athletics Gary Clark.  Furman will play Clemson on Sept. 15. The Paladins are the Tigers' oldest football rival, having first met on the gridiron in 1896 and most recently in 2007.

BASKETBALL: Davidson Muscles Past Paladins, 71-53

De'Mon Brooks led three Wildcats in double figures with 19 points and Davidson outscored Furman 38-22 in the paint en route to a 71-53 victory over the Paladins in Southern Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday evening on YP.com Court at Timmons Arena.  The loss dropped Furman to 11-11 overall and 5-6 in SoCon play while the Wildcats improved to 16-5 overall and 10-1 in conference play with their 29th win in their last 31 meetings against the Paladins.

FOOTBALL: Furman Football Signs 17 To National Letters Of Intent

Furman head coach Bruce Fowler today announced the signing of 17 recruits to national letters of intent.  The Paladins' recruiting class, which features eight defensive players, seven offensive performers, and two specialists, includes six recruits from South Carolina, five from Georgia, four from North Carolina, and one from both Tennessee and Florida.  Among Furman's additions are a pair of first team all-state defenders, including cornerback Reggie Thomas (Abbeville, S.C./Abbeville H.S.) and linebacker Cory Magwood (Varnville, S.C./Wade Hampton H.S.), and two quarterbacks, Reese Hannon (Greer, S.C./Greer H.S.) and Terry Robinson (Hephzibah, Ga./Hephzibah H.S.).

BASKETBALL: Men's Basketball Travels To No. 12/11 Florida Thursday

The South Carolina men's basketball team (9-11, 1-5 SEC) will travel to Gainesville, Fla., on Thursday to face No. 12/11 Florida (17-4, 5-1 SEC) in a 9 p.m. matchup at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.  The game will be aired live on ESPN2.

HS: Bobcats Headed To Playoffs

In high school basketball on Tuesday, the Seneca boys clinched a place in the AAA playoffs with a 68-58 win over Walhalla.  Marquis Hunter led the Cats with 21 points.  Next up for Seneca is a road trip to Belton-Honea Path, while Walhalla will visit Pickens.  Both those games are set for Friday night.  Elsewhere, West-Oak's boys downed Pickens 71-51.  Blake Maness with 23 points for the Warriors, who host the region's top team, Daniel, in a crucial game on Friday night.  The winner will clinch at least a share of the region title.
