Spurrier says Lattimore’s first surgery ‘went well’

USC football coach Steve Spurrier confirmed Sunday that running back Marcus Lattimore underwent the first surgery on his injured right knee Friday in Birmingham. Spurrier commented on Lattimore’s status during his Sunday conference cal, saying the surgery ‘went well’.  Spurrier said USC team doctor Jeff Guy might meet with the media this week to talk more about the surgery and what’s ahead for Lattimore who dislocated his knee in the Tennessee game.  Spurrier said Kenny Miles will take over at the starting running back with freshman Mike Davis the backup. Quarterback Connor Shaw will be able to practice this week after sitting out last week with a foot injury. And defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles is expected back this week after missing the Tennessee game with a shoulder injury.
