SRO Dukes feels fine after 168-mile walk

The school resource officer for Tamassee-Salem Middle/High School reports feeling fine after the first leg of a walk from the mountains to the sea. Norman Dukes raised about $2 thousand in pledges, money which will be split between two departments of his school. He spent 62 hours over a 15-day period in completing a 168-mile walk from Oconee to the State House in Columbia. Dukes wore a pair of professionally-made foot soles. At a later date, Dukes will undertake the second and final leg of his walk, from Columbia to the coast. There, on Sullivan’s Island, he intends to remove shoes and socks and dip his feet into the water. For the second leg, Dukes intends to raise money for Tamassee-Salem Elementary School.
