State funds OK’d for OC and Westminster

At a Walhalla meeting this morning, South Carolina “C” Fund money was approved for Oconee County and the city of Westminster. The county’s state transportation committee, chaired by Sam Dickson, took the action. At the request of Mack Kelley, director of Oconee Public Works, the committee granted $408 thousand—the estimated cost of more than five thousand tons of asphalt that the county will apply to 10 road projects approved this week by the county council. The committee’s action was unanimous, although Tally Grant told Kelley that, while the committee is willing to help fund county road projects it should not be placed in the position of having to fund them completely. Grant asked Kelley for an explanation of how much county tax money is designated for road work. Westminster will get $115 thousand. Most of that money will pave a new road for a project to build Habitat homes on Butler Street. Thirty-five thousand dollars will go for improving Ann Davis Street, a narrow city street.
