State Traffic Fatalities Up So Far

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of three persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, April 24, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, April 26, at midnight.  All of those weekend fatalities occurred in the lower part of the state. Two fatalities were in BerkleyCounty, and one in Jasper. As of April 26, 272 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 236 highway deaths during the same time period in 2014.  Of the 201 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2015, 101 were not wearing seat belts.  Through midnight April 26, 31 pedestrians have died compared to 24 in 2014; 22 motorcyclists have died compared to 20 in 2014; and 7 bicyclists have died compared to 4 in 2014 on state roads and highways.
