Streetscape bids to be received next week

Contractor’s bids to build Walhalla’s downtown Streetscape are to be received next week, and Mayor Danny Edwards says he’s hopeful those bids can be processed fast enough to allow for consideration during city council’s regular February meeting on the 17th. Meeting as committees last night, the mayor and council heard Scott Parris, the utilities director, say that he is expecting “two bids, possibly three.” It’s the second time that the city has called for bids, and city leaders are hoping this second time will be the charm. Nancy Goehle, city administrator, says the bids are to be opened at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning next week at City Hall. The recent cutting of some of the downtown’s Bradford pear trees is the first visible sign that the long-talked about remake of the city’s four block core commercial area is going to take place.
