Students attend beekeeping course

Three Oconee County students are on their way to becoming certified beekeepers after completing courses held by the Oconee Beekeepers Association. Eighth grader Connor Littlefield of Westminster, 10th grader Tyler Ratcliff and 12th grader Nick Schile, both of Seneca High School, took four weeks’ instruction and completed a written test. They will now perform one year of hands-on practice, after which they will receive certification from the S-C Beekeepers Association. To help them get started, Mann Lakes, a national beekeeping supplier, is providing a Hive body Kit to each student. Scholarships from the Carolina Foothills Heritage Fair paid the class tuition and will provide bees and the remaining supplies need.
