Students tackle issue of hazing

Two students at Clemson are taking on the issue of hazing within student organizations by creating a Hazing Prevention Week as part of Campus Safety Month.  Nick Balfe and Cooper Stewart of the Triangle Fraternity are taking the initiative to stress the importance of preventing hazing on college campuses.  Hazing is one avenue explored by the Oconee sheriff’s officers as they investigate the mysterious death last year of a Clemson student at SC 93 bridge over Lake Hartwell.  And issues of hazing are raised in a lawsuit this month on behalf of a Walhalla soccer player.  At their meeting tonight, Oconee school trustees are to hear about the lawsuit during their executive session.  Events will mark Hazing Prevention Week at Clemson, one of which is to be a speech Wednesday by State Representative Gary Clary of Pickens County.
