Subcommittee studies Bill Sandifer legislation

An Oconee state lawmaker is hopeful that there’s an enticement the state can offer to increase the numbers of physicians and other medical care workers who donate service to the state’s free medical clinics. Oconee’s Rosa Clark Medical Clinic, in Seneca, is considered a model for free clinics, but needs more medical professionals to volunteer. Legislation introduced by State Representative Bill Sandifer would offer a tax credit for services donated. After a hearing last week, the bill sits in the House, Ways and Means Committee and may not see action this year. Sandifer says the committee would prefer to act but, at this point, its time and effort are being monopolized by the need to put out a new state budget.
