Suicide behind Westminster police station

A 73-year old Westminster man died yesterday afternoon in the emergency department at Oconee Medical Center—one hour after what authorities called a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head. The incident occurred shortly after 2 o’clock behind the city police station/Oconee Magistrate’s Office at 106 Windsor Street. Coroner Karl Addis says a handwritten note had been left to the police indicating his reasoning for the act and instructions not to release his name to the media to provide privacy for his family. According to Addis, the man had no previous or current issues with the Oconee Magistrate Court of the Westminster police.
