Summer reading program to feature author

Oconee public schools stress that learning should not stop even over summer break.  To get students motivated to read over the recess, there will be a special event for Walhalla and Tamassee-Salem High students to meet a prize-winning author.  Matthew de la Pena will speak to the students during a kick-off event Thursday.  The intent is to promote life-long literacy among students to combat the learning loss that occurs naturally during the summer months.  The school year ends June 2.
