Surgery attaches plates to K9’s fractured hips

Surgery at a Greenville veterinarians’ facility attached plates to the fractured hips of the Westminster Police Department K-9.  Chief Dean Awalt says a recuperation period lies ahead and it is too soon to know if “Dexter” will be able to resume his duties.  The K-9 was hurt when hit by a car Independence Day night when, scared by fireworks, the dog broke free of its pen and was hit by a passing vehicle near the home of its handler, Corp. Isaac Moore.  According to Awalt, the identity of the driver is unknown to the police department. However, Samaritans assisted in the rescue of Dexter, and Awalt says Moore is going to issue a public thank you to them.
