Susan Pickett not too proud to beg

Oconeeans have been answering a need to donate to build their county’s first shelter to protect the the community’s victims of domestic violence. Especially, as the holidays approach, Susan Pickett would like county residents to consider the plight of another shelter, already in operation, that has begun to fall on some hard times of its own. It’s the Our Daily Rest homeless shelter in Seneca, which serves all of the county. “I hate to sound like we’re having a going out of business sale every week, but we have had a couple of close calls,” Pickett tells 96.3/WGOG NEWS. One of those calls occurred in January this year. The first month of the year is traditionally cold, a time that increased numbers of homeless people flock to the shelter on Seneca’s East Main Street. Following the Christmas holidays, January is a time when many people’s minds and concerns are elsewhere and, as a result, the shelter’s needs increase. It’s a non-government operation that relies on individual, corporate, and church support. You can learn more about Our Daily Rest during this Sunday’s ‘Community Sound Off’ on 96.3/WGOG.
