Take caution against phone fraud

A call to a Seneca area resident from someone purporting to be a Microsoft Tech Support individual, as far as the Oconee Sheriff’s Office can tell, was an attempt at fraud. The caller was able to gain remote access to the Seneca area resident’s computer and then started to look thru the personal files of the computer owner. It’s a reminder, according to the Sheriff’s Office, not to give personal or financial information to someone unknown to the individual and calls requesting that information. Jimmy Watt, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, also said, “We are advising residents not to grant remote access to their computers for individuals who claim to be calling from a technology company unless they themselves initiated the call.”
