Take recycling more seriously

An Oconee County councilman says the county should take recycling more seriously. And Wayne McCall last night said he’s not just talking about county government, but everyone in the community. McCall, who chairs the council committee dealing with solid waste issues, gave a report to council that amounted to a pep talk for Oconee County to do more in separating trash items from those that can be buried from those that can be recycled to a new use. McCall says while recyclable revenues to the county may be small, recycling saves landfill space and the cost of transporting waste. Through an arrangement with a private contractor, Oconee’s solid waste is trucked to a Georgia landfill.
