Taking issue with cross on government property

A Wisconsin-based group wants Seneca to remove a cross which it says is embedded into the stonework at the city’s new water plant building.  The Freedom from Religion Foundation claims says it contacted City Administrator Greg Dietterick Monday with a request that the city remove what it says is an “unconstitutional cross.”  The cross is believed to have been designed in honor of a construction worker who died after an accident at the work site.  The Freedom from Religion Foundation claims non-profit status and a nationwide membership of 23 thousand people and is concerned about the principle of separation between state and church.  Dietterick told reporters this afternoon that he has yet to inform the city council of the letter, but it will be a topic during council’s meeting Tuesday.
