Tamassee camp cited for drinking water violation

A state-run camp in Oconee County’s Tamassee community is being cited for a violation of drinking water regulations. At its meeting today, the board of South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control is scheduled to act on a plan to resolve what it found in violation at Camp Ghigau. The camp, on White Rock Road, is run by the state Department of Juvenile Justice. DHEC staff seeks an order for a corrective action plan that requires DJJ to address the causes for the camp’s public water system having exceeded the maximum contaminant level for coli form. Should any requirement of the order not be met, DJJ would be fined $4 thousand.
