Tax relief for military service personnel

Governor Haley has signed a bill to provide property tax relief to active duty military men and women in South Carolina. Active duty soldiers have been eligible for a 4% property tax assessment while stationed in South Carolina, but if required to move to fulfill orders, they could incur an increase to 6% as their residence in the state is viewed as a second home. The new law, signed by the governor yesterday, allows military personnel, as long as they remain on active duty, to keep the 4% assessment on their South Carolina home—even if they rent the property.
