Tech asks support for on-campus building project

Among the spending measures on the agenda for next week’s meeting of Oconee County Council is a request by Tri-County Technical College. Tech is following up on its recent budget presentation with a request for a letter of support to help the college build a new student building at the main Pendleton campus, at a total cost of $42 million. As one of three counties served by the college, Oconee’s share would be $6.75 million. The project has been estimated to take four years, with the start of construction to be July 1 next year. According to Dr. Ronnie Booth, Tech president, Oconee’s share of the funding would not be needed until the fiscal year 2016-17. Oconee is considering a second project with Tech. The other is a full-fledged Tech campus in Oconee County, such as the ones that both Anderson and Pickens counties already have.
