The cry against cuts in state aid heard at Hilton Head

Back from a conference of the South Carolina Association of Counties, an Oconee County councilman says the hue and cry over reduced state aid to local government was heard during this summer’s meeting at Hilton Head Island. Paul Corbeil, the District One county councilman, said from conference sessions he picked up information valuable to the county and to him as an elected representative. Corbeil said he sat in on an informative session led by a leading South Carolina attorney speaking about Home Rule. Another session dealt with the decline of aid to local governments—local tax dollars that go to the state but aren’t being returned, he said.
